Rodrigo Lira

Chilean poet. The recovery and introduction of spoken language and colloquialisms into poetic discourse, the use of sharp, dark humor within the work, and the constant presence of intertextuality—to mention only a few of the pillars upon which Lira's work rests—comprise a creation that broke with the continuity of a poetic tradition framed by the objective and subjective oppression that gripped Chile during the dictatorship. At the same time, it marked a turning point for the tradition, allowing it to continue evolving from that moment onward.
