Mason James Ramsey was born somewhere in the great unknown of the central Midwest, not far from Saint Louis, Missouri, where he discovered the art of storytelling at an early age. An actor, writer, and emerging filmmaker, Ramsey is drawn to stories that live somewhere between the absurd and the painfully human. His next project, Sea of Clouds, is set to arrive in the coming year—a departure from, yet strangely connected to, his debut work, Same Plane Terrain and In Ran Cram. The latter was an experimental undertaking born from urgency and instinct: a small crew, an iPhone, and a cast of actors who came together in less than twelve hours to create a wiry, Pinteresque world. Ramsey gravitates toward protagonists who are deeply flawed, quietly desperate, and unwilling to conform to the expectations placed upon them. His work finds tension in the mundane and discomfort in the ordinary, favoring dialogue that is blunt, awkward, and deliberately unpoetic. Through fractured ensembles and misdirected lives, his characters stumble through their own contradictions, searching for meaning in a world that rarely offers them any.
