Born in Bochum, Germany. Soviet German actor. Graduated from the Polytechnic in Germany in 1939. As a lieutenant, he served in General Rommel's army in Africa during World War II, where he was wounded by an anti-personnel mine. After treatment in hospital, he continued to serve on the Eastern Front. After Soviet captivity, he lived and worked in the USSR from the 1950s. He worked as an announcer for foreign broadcasts to West Germany and in the Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting, and acted in films.
