Nobreza Popular 2003

Directed by Beth Formaggini

Nobreza Popular features the "congadeira" women of the Chapada do Norte community in Vale do Jequitinhonha, Minas Gerais, as they celebrate during the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary of Black Men. The film focuses on their gestures, songs, and dances—specifically the rituals involving water—as they petition the Virgin of the Rosary for rain and other blessings.
