Arrochar - The Cobbler 1978
Directed by Alastair Hetherington
An episode of the BBC series 'Mountain Days' focused on the Cobbler, a small but spectacular mountain, less than 30 miles from Glasgow that has been beloved by generations of climbers from the city, and that in the 30s had the character of a 'working-class mountain'. Sandy Cousins and his daughter Eilid (age 15) guide us on the mountain, with a demonstration of climbing by young Glaswegians Norrie Muir and Arthur Paul. Then, John Cunningham and Willie Gorman climb the Recess Route in snowy conditions. Although anyone with strong legs and sound boots can reach the top, the mountain provides high-grade snow climbing in winter and severe rock climbing in summer.
