Haje 2026
Directed by Hwang Yun
Hoping to settle in Gunsan, filmmaker Hwang Yun encounters the ruined village of Haje in 2018. Nearly every resident has left, but Jeon Jin-hyeon remains, resisting eviction by the Ministry of National Defense. A 600-year-old hackberry tree, another of Haje's last inhabitants, is threatened by expansion of a U.S. military base. Peace activists gather to protect it, and Yun joins them. As dangerous weapons arrive at the base, they hold the monthly Paeng Paeng Cultural Festival, seeing Haje and the tree as a frontline of peace. After more than five years of effort, the tree is designated a national heritage site.
