Drama

A family mourns the loss of a mother and wife. Kalia (14) is a transgender girl coming into her own and embracing a new chapter in her life. Kiko (43), a widowed tricycle driver, remains bound to traditional beliefs and the lingering memories of his late wife. As prom night approaches, Kalia dreams of wearing her mother's gown. When Kiko discovers her intention, he reacts violently and tears the dress away from her. Faced with his daughter's truth, he must choose between holding on to the past or opening himself to the changes that life inevitably brings. Kiko eventually realizes the depth of their bond and decides to mend the gown. Though his unaccustomed hands are wounded in the process, he perseveres for the sake of his child. Later, as Kalia prepares to leave for school, Kiko hands her a piece of paper—a signed consent form. The film culminates with Kiko watching Kalia in her gown, placing a plastic crown upon her head: his quiet yet profound gesture of acceptance.
